For The Love Of Yarn...

For The Love of Yarn was born from a need for creativity, identity, and a little bit of sanity after I (Lisa) became a mum for the first time. I wanted something that was just for me - a way to reconnect with my creative side outside of nappies and night feeds. Having always been an "artsy fartsy" type and coming from a graphic design background, I naturally gravitated toward something hands-on, and when I stumbled across crochet, I was immediately hooked (pun absolutely intended!).

Around the same time, I was looking for ways to help my mum, who lived with chronic rheumatoid and osteoarthritis and found it difficult to hold traditional crochet hooks. I started experimenting with making custom polymer clay handles to make crafting easier and more accessible for her.

Soon after creating hooks, I fell head over heels for the world of hand-dyed yarn. The ability to play with colour, texture, and endless combinations of creativity was irresistible. I taught myself to dye yarn, one messy skein at a time, and slowly built a collection that reflected the bold, vibrant energy I always loved.

One thing led to another, and what began as a small personal project quickly turned into something much bigger - the start of For The Love of Yarn. What started in my kitchen grew into my first little studio space, and from there into a larger and larger creative home.

Today, For The Love of Yarn is based in a bright, bustling studio in the heart of Glasgow, Scotland. We dye vibrant yarns, create handmade crochet hooks and notions, and - just as importantly - have built a growing community of makers who inspire, support, and celebrate one another. Whether you’re picking up your very first skein or you’re a seasoned fiber artist, you’ll always find a warm welcome here. Creativity is for everyone - and we refuse to ever put our crayons back in the box.

About Lisa

Hi, I’m Lisa - founder, head dyer, and professional colour chaos creator here at For The Love of Yarn! After becoming a mum for the first time (about 16 years ago now!), I needed a way to reconnect with my creativity and sense of self. That search led me down a very colourful rabbit hole - first into crochet, then hook-making, and eventually into the wonderful, messy, magic world of yarn dyeing.

These days, you’ll most likely find me experimenting with new colourways in the dye pots, wrangling my kids, and trying (usually without success) to dodge Jen’s exasperated looks as I leave another trail of creative chaos around the studio. But honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’m passionate about creativity, connection, and building a community where everyone feels at home. For The Love of Yarn isn’t just about yarn - it’s about creating a vibrant, welcoming space where makers of all kinds (especially my fellow neurodivergent creatives!) can find inspiration, encouragement, and belonging. There’s no wrong way to be creative here, and there’s always room at the table for you.

My current FTLOY yarn obsession? It has to be Bru - it’s pure dopamine in skein form!

About Jen

Hey, I’m Jen - Lisa’s best friend, studio sidekick and spreadsheet enthusiast, apprentice dyer, and general wrangler of yarn, orders, and rogue dye splashes! I first started working at For The Love of Yarn to help Lisa stay (somewhat) organised and sane, but I quickly fell in love with the colourful world of yarn, creativity, and community that's been built here.

These days, you’ll usually find me keeping the studio running smoothly (or, trying to), prepping yarn for dyeing, learning the fine art of creating colour magic, or patiently rescuing scissors, mugs, and lost labels from Lisa’s latest whirlwind project.

I’m passionate about crafting in all its forms, especially learning and preserving older techniques like spinning yarn by hand. I believe creativity should be accessible to everyone - it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to be meaningful - you’ll often find me making my own bobbins out of toilet rolls and figuring out new ways to repurpose everyday things! I’m also extremely passionate about the environment, sustainability and finding ways to craft in a way that’s kinder to the planet.

My current FTLOY yarn fav just now? It's a fifty-fifty toss up between the new Rainbow Boucle we've just got in and the Sherbet Lemon recent addition to the sweet tooth collection!
